Thankfully there is on going education provided through professional organizations such as Pet Sitters International. Sharing information to loving pet parents to help provide greater understanding of how we can care for our "kids" is one of my great passions. As a certified professional pet sitter I review domestic, exotic, health care, emergency care, security plans, business etiquette, communication skills and heightened awareness of the responsibilities of being a hired professional.

My vision for 2018 is to help coordinate educational opportunities. Such as Dr. Marci Koski, the Feline Behaviorists offers to better understand our feline companions. http://www.felinebehaviorsolutions.com/
Be sure to get on her mailing list for upcoming events. Many of my clients are benefitting from her training and solutions for a purrfect life.

I look forward to hearing what areas you may wish to expand your knowledge. 2018 is full of pawsibilities.

May we continue to learn to be our best together.
One of the questions kitty parents face is whether to have an inside cat or outside or both. I have talked with veterinarians who say it is a challenge to keep some cats inside all the time. The advantages of doing have shown to increase a kitty's lifespan, reduces health risks & injuries. To help a kitty adapt to being an indoor cat you can add tree like activity posts, climbing "shelves" plants and fresh litter boxes. Cozy beds and blankets, kitty grass, play toys, tunnels, games, catnip and healthy food and fresh water all enhance the environment. Most important is you. As much as kitties love their independence they definitely like to know their "human" is within their realm of existence. Che' has chosen to be at my side day and night these days and prior he tolerated a moment of sitting near any human.

Our furry friends remind us to look around and appreciate what we see, feel and experience. I have always said if you don't know what to do with your day, get a dog. They will tell you when to get up, when to go potty, when to eat, stretch, exercise, play, rest, eat, who to meet and who not to meet and so much more. They are actively teaching us how to be a better person as we get to focus on their needs... yes they need us.

routinely have Donna come over to take my dog out for the day. Every day my dog
goes with Donna he comes home tired and ready to relax. This is perfect as I am
ready to relax myself after a long day. She has also helped me out when I went
to Hawaii for a week. She sends daily photos and we share a journal of
information about the day's activities and any other additional log information
we have questions about. I trust Donna and I know she takes care of my dog as
if he were her own. She is easy to work
with, accommodates all my crazy schedule changes. She is the best and I would
recommend anyone to use Donna for pet sitting. You would never regret it.

Whether it is a beautiful sunny day or a misty, rainy one we can dress for the weather. Some of our "fur kids" even have their own wardrobe for the occasion. Regardless of the weather the tails will be wagging as the energy used is so helpful to your "fur kids" over all health and even yours.

Even if you itty bitty love bud needs great walks. One of my clients, Mr. Bentley who is a imperial shitzu part maltese takes on 4 miles without a sweat. He is a champ. Your buddy can do the same if you focus on them.

For those who are finding their age catching up to them, take time periodically in the day such as morning or evening to make the distance and time out sniffing and seeing the world a beneficial route. Pace is not the focus, being present is.

Being present is so important to our furry friends. Just like kids, they know when you are not paying full attention to them. So put the cell phone in your pocket and your eyes on the trail, listen for the birds, enjoy the smell and appreciate the way your furry friend sees the world and looks at you as their leader.

Enjoy a healthy trail walk.Auntie Donna, Pet Nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14478283581550607746noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4276375777073492443.post-6376919573734369082010-10-21T23:14:00.000-07:002010-10-21T23:17:36.892-07:00

Auntie Donna, Pet Nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14478283581550607746noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4276375777073492443.post-37240814226040049232010-07-29T15:11:00.001-07:002012-07-09T14:17:03.498-07:00More on the summer heat

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Keep dogs on a leash or confined by fence. Do not let dogs run loose even if they are usually well-behaved. Many dogs get hit by cars whose owners think they "do not need a leash."

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Many cats also get hit by cars. Be sure to keep cats indoors or confined with a specially-designed cat fence.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Do not exercise dogs or allow them to exercise or play hard during very hot weather or the hottest part of day. Exercise your dogs in the early morning and evening.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Do not let brachcephalic (short-nosed breeds, such as bulldogs or pugs) dogs over-exercise when it is hot outside.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Dogs that have noisy breathing may have a medical condition. Have them examined by a vet and use caution with exercise in the heat.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">• Make sure all windows have well-fitting screens.

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">

<span style="font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt;">Following these steps will help ensure that you and your pets beat the heat safely this summer.

Yesterday was only 93 degrees. This is a time for even more protection is needed to be there for our loving pets. Please read the information on the United Animal Nations website: http://uan.org/index.cfm?navid=757

Just yesterday, I found a lab mix, wearing a "black tuxedo suit" and walking the main road in the heat of the 93 degree day. His black coat was hot to touch and his tongue was as long as it could be. He was drenched from panting and definitely needed water. Of course, I stopped my car and offered water in a traveling pet bowl. He finally drank and then I began the quest to find his home. He gratefully climbed in my car with a bit of help as this fellow was 10 years old. Even though he wore a "tuxedo" he did not have a complete outfit. He was not wearing a collar or tags to make this quest easy. I visited 10 homes before finally finding his family. It is with great thanks that so many of the homes I stopped at were animal lovers too. Each took sincere interest in helping. Water, shade and food were offered for him at a pet lovers home. Thank you Jackie, Rea & Casie. He even received a cool water bath to lower his body temp. "Socks" is now at home and is a repeat runner (walker with a limp). I did make recommendations that he have a collar with tags to wear and a microchip added to ensure his safe return. Water and a cool place to shelter himself from the heat.
Please be on the look out for our furry friends, especially in this heat.Auntie Donna, Pet Nannyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14478283581550607746noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4276375777073492443.post-18326719693227731682010-06-27T17:24:00.001-07:002010-06-27T19:52:42.904-07:00Walks in the ParksIt's a treat to post Auntie Donna's first blog. Thank you for visiting and being a fan.

Today is: Every dog gets their day when they have the chance to walk and play. When you share a walk with your furry friend you can enjoy great health benefits too. Dogs need the outlet to focus while walking at your side and listening to you. When you start out, take the time to review a few of the basics, to sit, heel, and pay attention when you make a request. You will know when your furkid is on board with you, when they keep looking your way and checking up on you. If this doesn't happen at first, stop on occasion to practice the basics again, be patient & soon you will be on your way. A trainer can review these ideas with you to allow for a rewarding way to walk each day.

Today, I walked with Mr. Bentley, an imperial Shitzu part Maltese, and Miss Wilma, who is a sweet Jack Russell Terrier, on a two hour walk. Now some might say this is a long way to go for those little legs on Mr. Bentley . We walked and stopped on occasion for some photo opportunities, you will see once they post, each "furclient" was happy to walk. They keep a great pace and get some water when we stop. Keep in mind no matter the size of your friendly pooch, they need a good daily walk. They will relax once they are home and maybe you will too. Your furkid will be most grateful, and next time will be excited to go with you. Keep a good healthy walk in your schedule for both of you.
Our walk was around the Lacamas creek falls loop from 3rd Street in Camas, WA and around to Lower Falls Loop. It's a beautiful walk and even a deer strolled across our path. Get out there in this sunshine and find a great path. Check this blog for details of the location. http://phcwalkingroup.blogspot.com/

If you find during your long days this is a challenge for you, then call on Auntie Donna to be your pet's nanny for your pets.

Thank you again for visiting, I look forward to sharing with you.
